The most common prayer myth.

I’m sure that many people have fallen into the trap of thinking that you have to pray for a long period of time, in order to sincerely get God’s attention. But this is NOT the case. And I desire to address this issue in today’s post. God see’s your heart, and this is what truly matters.

Matthew 6:7 ~ When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again.

Good day beautiful people.

Today I’m coming at you with another post on prayer, simply because prayer is an integral part of the Christian faith. And as usual I like to share my journey with you all, so that you can learn from my life experiences, and hopefully avoid mishaps, and or heartache. So sit back, relax, and let God’s truth restore your mind with a peace which surpasses all human understanding!

Lately I’ve been feeling extremely exhausted after work, due to everything returning back to a new normal, meaning clinics are up and running again, and the hospital is playing ‘catch up’. This has had a direct impact on my overall well-being, and has affected my prayer life! So, I decided to ask my church family to keep me in their prayers, and to specifically ask God to give me the strength to pray under all circumstances, and for the grace to pray during moments of weariness. (Honesty there is power in corporate prayer, and sharing your burdens with other believers). I was in a place where I felt frustrated, and somewhat guilty for not ‘praying enough’.

1 John 3:19-22 ~ “Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God. Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence. And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him.”

Now I vividly remember the words of my dad that evening, they were extremely encouraging, and I’ve stored them within my heart. The first reminder he gave me was the importance of practicing the presence of God! We mustn’t forget that we can speak with God anytime, anywhere, whilst we’re driving, cooking, cleaning, or working out. We must utilise every God given opportunity to speak with our Heavenly Father!

And the ULTIMATE MYTH BUSTER my dad spoke to me about, was the truth that ‘God doesn’t deem our love for Him as meaningless, simply because we spend ‘only’ 15 minutes speaking (praying) with Him within a 24 hour period’. My dad encouraged me by saying that even if I spoke to Him for 15 minutes throughout our day, he knows that I still love him 😊😭! (My dad is too cute/ sweet right, I truly thank God for his life). Also don’t forget that reading the bible is part of communicating with God! It’s a form of prayer.

Hebrews 4:14-16 ~ “So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

[Side-note: Today I was greatly blessed by the verses found in Psalm 105. It was God’s firm reminder to me that He answers prayers, and that He will NEVER EVER go back on His word! Just because you can’t ‘see’ anything happening, does not mean that God isn’t working. God promised Abraham that He’d be a father of many nations, this wasn’t something that Abraham asked for, he desired to have a child, but God blessed him far GREATER than his mind could imagine].

Psalm 105:7-12 ~ “He is the Lord our God. His justice is seen throughout the land. He always stands by his covenant the commitment he made to a thousand generations. This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac. He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant: “I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession.” He said this when they were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan.”

Have an awesome week, keep on holding on.

God bless
