What helps me get through a workout

Good morning PEOPLE

I hope you are all well and keeping safe during this pandemic. I believe that during such time’s of trouble greatness is created and birthed (Genesis 50:20 ~ “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”). Therefore I urge you if you’ve been asked to work from home or your shifts have been cancelled (which isn’t cool at all), utilise you’re time wisely! Don’t waste it, don’t procrastinate, better yourself and tap into your creative side. Anyways today I will be discussing about my health and fitness journey, as well as informing you on how I manage to get through my workouts.

1. MUSIC PLEASE: I don’t know about the rest of you but for me workouts seem to be a bit more of a struggle when I don’t have music to listen to! I remember times when I’d arrive at the gym scavenging through my bags and pockets only to realise I’ve left my earphones at home! My heart would literally sink. So when working out at home I like to blast my Christian jams in order to get myself pumped up! It also makes workouts seem shorter. Music is very powerful looking at the Bible we see that when David played the harp for King Saul he felt at ease (not tormented). 1 Samuel 16:14-23 [vs 23And whenever the tormenting spirit from God troubled Saul, David would play the harp. Then Saul would feel better, and the tormenting spirit would go away.”]

2. Believing the truth: Having the mindset that I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me helps me stay motivated (Philippians 4:13). I choose to apply this biblical passage to every aspect of my life including my workouts.

3. Learning from others: Nobody knows it all, no matter how clever you are you can ALWAYS learn something new. Looking at other workouts on Pinterest and the Gram has really helped take my workouts to the next level. I feel that following written exercises helps me structure my home training so I don’t waste time trying to figure out what body part to train. Structure is key!

4. Get to know your body & pray over your health: I have formulated the habit of daily communicating with God regarding my overall wellbeing. I like to pray for wisdom so that I don’t make decisions which will impact me negatively! I feel that this point in particular is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for EVERYBODY to take into consideration. Now I can admit that the pursuit of having a chiselled out toned body was once a precious goal to me, but as of recent I’ve realised I NEED to look after my health and not go overboard! In my case I’ve had to stick to home workouts for the time being in order to avoid strenuous activity which could further impact tendon inflammation in my shoulder. It’s important that we are aware of our bodies and take notice of the signs which our bodies try to tell us! My goal now is not to grow my gluteus maximus but to simply keep healthy. I strive to keep a close eye on my diet and limit my sugar consumption as part of loving myself. It is known that some health issues faced by the general population are a result of lifestyle choices made during younger years. In some cases illness such as diabetes and hypertension can potentially be a result of lifestyle choices. (M.J. Pappachan. (2011). Increasing prevalence of lifestyle diseases: high time for action. India. IJMR) & (T. Coyne et al. (2000). Lifestyle disease in Pacific communities. New Caledonia. SPC headquarters).

Anyways I hope you’ve enjoyed reading and I want to remind us all not to overwork ourselves and not to neglect our bodies and minds 😊

Final verse of encouragement for a time like this 2 Chronicles 7:14 ~ “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”

Stay blessed, God bless
