7 things you can learn from the life of Ruth (Part 1).

Good morning lovelies

Today’s write up is the first post to a seven part series on the life of Ruth. I’m sure that there’s a lot more to learn from the young woman but there are 7 major characteristics which stood out to me which I believe we can all learn from and implement into our daily lives.

The first thing to note about Ruth is that she placed God before the hope of being married again! A God whom she did not know so intimately. She chose God over marriage! I know that several women have the dream of wearing a wonderful wedding dress and having the opportunity to celebrate with loved ones, as well as look forward to spending the rest of their life with the one human being they adore most… BUT we must never forget that there is MORE TO LIFE THAN GETTING MARRIED. Please aspire to do more with yourself, do not allow marriage become your one and only life goal.

Ruth 1:12-16 ~ “No, my daughters, return to your parents’ homes, for I am too old to marry again. And even if it were possible, and I were to get married tonight and bear sons, then what? Would you wait for them to grow up and refuse to marry someone else? No, of course not, my daughters! Things are far more bitter for me than for you, because the Lord himself has raised his fist against me.” And again they wept together, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-bye. But Ruth clung tightly to Naomi. “Look,” Naomi said to her, “your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. You should do the same.” But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”

From these verses one can note that Ruth chose to follow a God whom she observed her mother-in-law serve instead of choosing the security of marriage. This tells me a relationship with Christ is worth far more than any marriage!…Ahhhh the name of Jesus is like honey on my lips.

Your ultimate goal and aspiration in life should be to bring glory to God in all you do, and to live a life of complete surrender. Marriage is a beautiful, great, and amazing institution created by God Almighty, but what is of greater/higher importance is having a relationship with God!

There is a deeper level of love in life than that between a man and a woman (husband and wife)! A sacrificial love! David and Johnathan understood this. A love that puts the other first and says ‘I will forgo pleasure and personal gain so that you can prosper and be in the place where God the Father desires for you to be’! This is the love which God has for humanity, and we can see a reflection of this when looking into David and Jonathan’s friendship. Their relationship in a way foretells the Messiah’s (God in flesh appearing’s) love for the world. God the Son left His heavenly throne and took on human flesh, He humbled Himself and died in our place so that we may live forever, through accepting the gift of salvation. Johnathan did not put up a fight in order to gain authority over the kingdom of Israel, which his father so desperately wanted him to rule and control. He was happy to see his friend become King rather than become his father’s successor to the throne. God’s love for us is far superior to the love which David and Johnathan had for one another as close friends.

2 Samuel 1:26 ~ “How I weep for you, my brother Jonathan! Oh, how much I loved you! And your love for me was deep, deeper than the love of women!”

There is no love like the love of God. No man or woman can love you more than God, not even your own mother or father. Desire to do great and mighty things with your life through the power of the Holy Spirit, and remember you already have the greatest love of all. Pray to God to open your eyes to see and know the truth which is you are loved beyond measure. Stop resisting God’s deep affection towards you so that you can truly live a fulfilled life through encountering the power of His unfailing love.

John 15:13 ~ “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Isaiah 49:15 ~ “Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!”

Remember to always put God first in your life. God bless and stay safe people, I look forward to sharing part 2 with you all next week God willing.
