Should Christians really celebrate Christmas?

Good morning beautiful people,

I hope you’ve all had a blessed time celebrating the birth of Christ, even in the midst of these dark, and trying times. I pray that the light of Christ continues to shine within your hearts, and homes, and may God’s light bring hope into every dark area of your life. So, today I will be be discussing about a debatable subject, one which is infrequently discussed about within Christian circles! Should Christians really celebrate Christmas?

The short answer to this question would be, if you desire to celebrate the birth, and life of Christ on December the 25th, by gift giving, and hanging up decor, do so. And if you don’t desire to commemorate Christ’s birth in such a manner, then so be it!

What we should not be doing as believers, is condemning one another, over chosen dates, and time’s, for communal worship. The truth is that nobody knows the exact date that Christ was born, but everyday is special, because each day is a day which the Lord has made, and we should rejoice and be glad in it. Why? Because Christ has won the victory, and salvation is available to all. We shouldn’t resent one another, because one group of individuals decides not to put up Christmas decorations, within their home, and the other does. All this does is cause unnecessary division! What we should be doing, is pointing people to Christ.

Psalm 118:24 ~ This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Romans 14:5-6 ~ In the same way, some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. You should each be fully convinced that whichever day you choose is acceptable. Those who worship the Lord on a special day do it to honor him. Those who eat any kind of food do so to honor the Lord, since they give thanks to God before eating. And those who refuse to eat certain foods also want to please the Lord and give thanks to God.

We ought to point people to Christ DAILY, and I believe that the Christmas period is a great time to do so! It’s a great opportunity for Christians to point people to the Saviour of the world, instead of bickering over dates. After all there is no Christmas without Christ.

But isn’t Christmas a pagan festival????😮! Firstly I’d like to express that the following statements are my personal views/convictions. I urge you to seek the Holy Spirit for counsel at all times, for He gives wisdom, and direction!

The first recollection of the celebration of Christ’s birth that I am aware of, is found in the bible! God led a group of magi to the place of Christ’s birth, through using a star. Angels revealed the good news of Christ’s arrival to some shepherds, who accepted this good news with great joy, and hurried to worship baby Jesus, born in a stable! It was a time of praise, and thanksgiving. It was a joyous occasion worth celebrating. The group of magi presented 3 gifts to precious baby Jesus, knowing that there was something extremely special about Him. He was a King! King of all kings.

Matthew 2:1-2 ~ Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking,“Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.”

Luke 2:8-17 ~ And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child.

Now the problem we have today is that people have forgotten, or are unaware of the true meaning of CHRISTmas. The celebrant (Christ) has been subtracted from numerous celebrations, taking place across many homes around the world! For many individuals Christmas is only about cooking, drinking, giving, and receiving gifts, and meeting loved ones etc. Many persons are unaware that they have access to the greatest gift of all, a gift which came through the life of baby Jesus! The gift of salvation. A gift that can never rot, or perish, a gift which transcends death itself. Christmas is about Christ, it’s a reminder of God’s great love for us!

But we all know how Satan loves to work! He likes to pervert everything that is good. But I know that, what the enemy intends for evil, the Lord will turn around for good, in Jesus name! On Christmas Eve, someone mentioned to me that if I knew the story behind Christmas trees, I wouldn’t have one in my home. The thing is objects/symbols have different meanings for different people (different cultures) around the world. What I am aware of, is that trees, and plants are all part of God’s beautiful creation, and when He created them, He said they were good. Now if someone decides to worship a tree, does that make the tree a real god? No! Does it make all trees evil? No! I was listening to a radio station and the preacher stated that trees reminded him of the cross! Christ hung on a tree, so that we can be set free! He defeated the curse of sin on the cross, so that all may live forever, if they accept the gift of salvation!

Genesis 2:9 ~ And out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Acts 5:30 ~ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree.

Acts 13:10 ~ Then he said, “You son of the devil, full of every sort of deceit and fraud, and enemy of all that is good! Will you never stop perverting the true ways of the Lord?

^^^ Satan likes to pervert the truth, and can use people to do the same.

If you want to celebrate Christmas good, if you don’t want to celebrate Christmas, that’s fine too! Just don’t sin against your own conscience, and in everything you do, do it for the glory of God. Just don’t rain on someone else’s parade because they worship God differently to you!

Romans 14:23 ~ But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.

I hope you enjoyed today’s read! Continue to stay safe.

God bless

  1. I agree that we should not be resenting each other over our personal choices to decorate for and celebrate Christmas or not. You are absolutely correct that it causes division. That’s crazy because we are supposed to be like-minded individuals after the same purpose; sharing the good news of Jesus Christ! Keep shining your light!

  2. Hello! You are correct, christmass was started form the Catholic church. the original celebration was on or before the 21 of December. the winter soloist is a major celebration of (i think ) occult.it was moved to 25 to get the two party’s together and have an easer time celebrating the 21 as no one would care when you celebrate it now.
