Rejecting beauty standards.

Good day beautiful people,

I hope that this post meets you, and your family members well? Today’s encouragement Wednesday post revolves around ‘beauty’.

Now I have to be honest with you, it greatly upsets me when I witness individuals distorting how they look, in order to fit a so called ‘beauty standard’. Seeing people try to erase their heritage, to fit what the world views as ‘ideal’, is heartbreaking! There is inner and outer beauty! But today I want to focus on outer beauty.

A common phenomena I’ve witnessed when watching beauty documentaries, is that people are still left feeling empty, and upset after trying their best to appear a certain way before the watching world. I see an element of emptiness, and a lack of fulfilment within the eyes of multiple individuals who’ve tried to ‘fix’ themselves, yet still hold the view that they’re not good enough.

An important note I want us ALL to remember, is that different is also beautiful! I learnt this truth when I was in year 2 or 3 I think, and I shall tell you how 😊. I hated the time’s when my grandma would do Bantu knots on my hair using thread! I thought I looked like a boy 🙈. I hated it so much, but still had to get it done anyway. But when I went back to primary school after school holidays, a classmate was like ‘I LIKE your hair’! This made me embrace my uniqueness even more, and I tell you what, that comment put a smile on my face. It was then I knew different was ALSO beautiful, and I started to love myself so much more. And it was then I also began to embrace my difference. And guess what??? Like 20 years down the line, Bantu knots became the in thing, the natural hair community seemed to appreciate the style quite a bit😉. Which leads me to my next point.

Bantu Knots

So point number two is a VERY important point, so please take note, and store this advice within your heart lol. If you follow the trends of the world, one minute the way you look will be in season, and then the next minute out of season! (I remember growing up in the 90s/early 2000s, and females with large chests were glamourised. But now that so called trend has been forgotten, and having big glutes is apparently now what’s best 🥱). But if you know how valuable you are in the eyes of the Lord, you’ll understand that your beauty is ALWAYS in season, and never out of season. Dark skin is always beautiful, light skin is always beautiful, short hair is beautiful, long hair is beautiful, a bald scalp is beautiful, cupid bow lips are beautiful, a bigger upper lip is beautiful, freckles are beautiful, a wide nose is beautiful, a pointy nose is beautiful, and a asymmetrical face is also beautiful etc. This is because God created the human race skilfully, and wonderfully. God made us in His image.

Matthew 10:31 ~ “So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”
‭‭

Psalm 139:14 ~ “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvellous how well I know it.”

Genesis 1:27 ~ So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

To call something God created wonderful, not, is an insult to the Creator of the heavens and earth! I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and some of us appreciate certain characteristics more than others, but it is absolutely wrong to call a person ugly or unlovable. Never demonise a person because of their appearance. I mean who are we to call someone ugly, who God calls and created marvellous!

Ephesians 4:29 ~ Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

^^^ Speak to others, and about others kindly.

Isaiah 45:9-10 ~ “What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, ‘Stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim, ‘How clumsy can you be?’ How terrible it would be if a newborn baby said to its father, ‘Why was I born?’ or if it said to its mother, ‘Why did you make me this way?’”

^^^God has given us distinct facial features, characteristics, and personalities. And we can use our uniqueness to bring God glory, and pleasure. We must remember that all of God’s plans/purposes for our lives are GOOD! Trust Him, He didn’t make a mistake in creating us uniquely.

I know we can all have our off days, we’re we don’t ‘feel’ pretty! I remember being younger and being sooo frustrated with my acne scars (hyperpigmentation), that I took an scourer (iron sponge) and started scrubbing my face! Yeah that was a big mistake, made things a lot worse! NEVER do anything to your face, body, or hair whilst angry! Anger can be dangerous, and can lead a person to harming themselves! I can admit that I have a very bad habit [popping pimples 🙈, Lord help me stop]! I can also assure you that it isn’t worth it at all. It lead to the development of an infected boil on my face near my orbits, and I had to get antibiotics via A&E! All because of pimple popping.

I am not anti makeup, but I believe that problems arise when you feel that you can never be seen without makeup on. That sounds more like bondage to me. Especially when you believe that you are worthless or hideous without it. This issue is a mind matter, and one should not believe the lies of Satan, but believe what God say’s. And God’s word says we are beautifully made, simple. [Btw I find it so heartwarming to watch a person realise just how beautiful they are, through the use of makeup accentuating their God given facial features! P.S. girl you are beautiful with or without makeup on]. It is sad to see people put their lives at risk in order to make people accept them. Please stop, for you’re worth so much in the eyes of God, even if others don’t think so. God says you’re worth dying for, and He proved it on the cross on Calvary.

Philippians 4:8 ~ “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

^^^ Fix your eyes/mind on the truth.

It is my prayer that people no longer lose their lives through dangerous medical practice/self treatment (botch jobs), in order to please others. I pray that we all embrace and come to love the unique way God created us. There will never be another you, so learn to love yourself.

God bless & continue to stay safe.

The Lord is your strength.
