You have a purpose (Part 1)

Good day beautiful people,

I hope you’re all well? As promised I’ll be starting a bible study series, focusing on helping individuals discover their purpose! I’m extremely passionate about people embarking on the journey towards following the path which God has carved out for them to follow. I believe that every human being has unique gifts and abilities which are meant to be used! I also believe that when a persons dream becomes reality, it brings about a great feeling of fulfilment. And the bible says that it’s good to enjoy the fruit of your labour!

Ecclesiastes 5:18-19: “Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life this is indeed a gift from God.”

Firstly you MUST know that everyone has a purpose, and that there is a place for EVERY skill within the body of Christ. I think a great starting point to practically discovering your purpose is to pray, and to identify your natural skills, abilities, and strengths. Do not undermine your God given talents, they have a place in this world, and can be used to bless a specific group of people, so quit comparing yourself to others.

Did you know that the average person has up to 700 skills 😯! So never fall into the trap of believing that you’re good for nothing, because you ARE good at hundreds of things!

I always like to look to God’s word for guidance, direction, and wisdom. When looking at the life of Tabitha one can observe that through her clothe making skills, she was able to bless a MULTITUDE of people. And it was because of her generosity that many people got to encounter the power of God through the resurrection of the dead (Tabitha was brought back to life).

Acts 9:36-42 ~ “There was a believer in Joppa named Tabitha (which in Greek is Dorcas ). She was always doing kind things for others and helping the poor. About this time she became ill and died. Her body was washed for burial and laid in an upstairs room. But the believers had heard that Peter was nearby at Lydda, so they sent two men to beg him, “Please come as soon as possible!” So Peter returned with them; and as soon as he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room. The room was filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes Dorcas had made for them. But Peter asked them all to leave the room; then he knelt and prayed. Turning to the body he said, “Get up, Tabitha.” And she opened her eyes! When she saw Peter, she sat up! He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then he called in the widows and all the believers, and he presented her to them alive. The news spread through the whole town, and many believed in the Lord.”

You also have Samson in the Bible, he was blessed with supernatural strength. The Holy Spirit gave Samson the ability to be very strong. Strength is a gift from God which can be used to protect others, through providing security for a community! The main point which I’m trying to bring across today, is that you can introduce others to the gospel message without having to be a preacher, all you have to do is walk in obedience to God, by using your gift! Your talent has a place in this world!

Judges 15:14 ~ “As Samson arrived at Lehi, the Philistines came shouting in triumph. But the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon Samson, and he snapped the ropes on his arms as if they were burnt strands of flax, and they fell from his wrists.”

I love to bake and I’ve come to realise that something special happens when people eat together. Sharing food helps break down walls/barriers, people open up and put their guard down. Breaking bread together builds unity between mankind.

Psalm 133:1 ~ How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!

Baking is enjoyable for me because I like to use the work of my hands to bless others! During the process of giving to others I get blessed too, because I get the opportunity to develop my gift, and I get to witness people smile! Trust God’s process and timing when working on your abilities, as you’ll encounter stages were you feel that nothing is going right, this is normal, don’t fret and remember that God is in control of the storm! It’s taken me a long while to establish myself within the baking world (I’m still enduring the process as I write now), but every little step is progress. It took the Israelites 40 years to get to the promise land, but they got there nonetheless.

There are so many ways in which you can use your gifts within the body of Christ, for example if you can knit you can design ornaments for the church, or make blankets for the homeless. If you can make perfume, your perfume could be given to church members during special occasions such as Mother’s, or Father’s Day etc. Or you could use your gifts to establish your own business.

A list of some talents mentioned in the Bible.

⁃ Perfume maker

⁃ Baker

⁃ Administrator

⁃ Guard

⁃ Arts and crafts designer

⁃ Fish monger

⁃ Singer

⁃ Musician

⁃ Incense maker

⁃ Nanny

⁃ Physician

⁃ Hotel owner (hospitality) etc

Remember that ALL gifts are special.
