Good day purposeful people
I hope that this post meets you, and your family members well? As promised today’s post is a follow up on, combatting panic attacks. I believe that it’s very important for us to deal with the ROOT cause of problems, rather than patching up the symptoms! So in today’s writ up we shall be investigating the root causes of panic/anxiety, amongst some other things.
Anxiety can stem from fear of the unknown. For example being uncertain about your health, and not knowing what’s happening inside of you, can be very scary. Allowing anxiety to control your every decision, is a form of bondage, which can lead to severe panic attacks.
Also anxiety can be aggravated by sickness. A persons mental health can spiral down hill rapidly, because of physical affliction (illness). But there is an important truth I want us all to remember which is… Some great saints have had to live with physical sickness all their lives, yet this did not diminish their testimony, but made them draw closer to God. Our difficulties/challenges can help us become more dependent upon God, and can help prevent us from becoming prideful (stop us from relying on our own wisdom/strength). God’s grace is enough to help us through our trials, Hallelujah!
Paul had a thorn in his flesh which the Lord did not remove. God told Paul that His grace is sufficient for Him, and His grace is what will help Paul get through life! Now there is speculation regarding what exactly Paul’s thorn in the flesh was, some say it may have been a physical ailment, but what is important to take away from Paul’s statement is that God’s grace (unmerited favour through the gift of salvation) is enough for us! We must remember that trusting God is a lifetime process, and we ought to have confidence in Him, and not be afraid.
2 Corinthians 12:7-9 ~ Even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
Psalm 27:3 ~ “Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.”
A Song of assurance built upon the truth of God’s holy word.
Jesus You’re my firm foundation, I know I can stand secure
Jesus You’re my firm foundation, I put my hope in Your holy word
I put my hope in Your holy word
I have a living hope (I have a living hope)
I have a future (I have a future)
God has a plan for me (God has a plan for me)
Of this I’m sure, of this I’m sure
Your word is faithful (Your word is faithful)
Mighty with power (Mighty with power)
God will deliver me (God will deliver me)
Of this I’m sure, of this I’m sure
[Song by John Chisum]
When it comes to dealing with the root cause of panic and anxiety, we must first accept and admit that we need help! Sometimes medical intervention is necessary to help deal with uncontrollable emotions, and one should not be afraid to seek help from a medical professional (God is the giver of wisdom, and gives medical staff knowledge)! Sometimes it can be difficult for one to explain how they feel to others, and individuals may not ‘get’ you, and may tell you to ‘just get over it’, and that it’s ‘all in your mind’. But your feeling of uneasiness is real! Restlessness is a tangible experience which leads to a lack of peace. It can be distressing having to wrestle with your own thoughts, trying to tell yourself nothing is wrong with you, or nothings actually happening, when you can physically ‘feel’ distressed/unwell. But there is good news, a christian has victory in Christ Jesus, because Christ conquered anxiety, stress, fear, and panic on the cross! You can cope through trying times because you have God’s presence with you! We have hope, because Jesus is alive! We don’t have to battle alone.
Philippians 4:13 ~ “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
You can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you!
You can cope under all circumstances because of Christ who strengthens you, when you walk in accordance to His will for your life!
My final point for you today is that you’re not alone in the struggle of dealing with panic. Jesus knows exactly how you feel, even if others don’t, which is what makes Jesus the perfect high priest. He knows just how we feel! He is not a distant God, He is very much involved with His creation. Christ gave up His divine privileges by coming to earth, and sacrificing His life on the cross, in order to redeem us from the curse of sin. He felt anguish and distress He felt soul crushing pain. Christ encountered the human experience of suffering.
Matthew 26:36-38 ~ Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.” He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”
^^^ You cannot journey life alone, you NEED God, and good friends who will encourage you, and pray for you during your moments of distress!
I hope that you enjoyed today’s read, and don’t forget that we are victorious because Christ is risen. We don’t have to live lives controlled by fear, anxiety, worry, or panic.
God bless
